This painting was juried into the American Impressionist Society Associate Member Online Exhibition 2026. There were 1920 entries received and 248 images juried into the exhibition. I am so honored!
I received this from a former student and it warmed my heart. She responded to my newsletter about this painting Laundry, Chickens, and Turkeys, Oh My!
Good afternoon Michele, What a great picture you painted! When I was a kid and into the young adult/family years, the only means for drying clothes and baby things was to hang them outside. Growing up my Dad, who knew nothing about carpentry, made the long polls the clothes line would hang on. The clothes, towels etc would drag on the ground if the polls didn’t hold, as on a windy day. I remember many a day when they couldn’t hang outside and would then have to be hung in the basement to dry. The fresh air smell was only when they hung outside! My Mom had the longest lines of anyone in the neighborhood! Thank you so much for sharing your art with this 90 year old woman. You bring back lots of very fun memories. My Mom would have loved your work also. She painted in oils and would be out of bed a few hours after she went to sleep, go into our attic and paint for several hours. Then she would go back to bed for a few more hours only to be awakened by my Dad who would have fresh coffee for her and himself. They would sit in bed, drink coffee, then get out of bed to dress for the day and go to work. This ritual went on until my Mom passed. As my children grew up and stayed overnight with them, they would have hot chocolate in the old bed my Grandmother slept in. What great memories for kids! Thank you again, Michele. You have made my heart glad!
